Fragility-based effectiveness evaluation of reinforced concrete bridge piers strengthened with UHPC jackets

Abstract The use of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) jackets as a seismic strengthening method for reinforced structures has become increasingly prevalent. Specifically, these are applied to plastic hinge regions the improve overall earthquake resistance. This study evaluates effectiveness UHPC in columns through fragility curves. modeled numerically, accounting material nonlinearity, and various scenarios, including those without with different heights, validated cyclic loading tests. Subsequently, case two-column bridge pier is examined. Time-history dynamics analyses conducted on 140 ground motion records develop probabilistic demand models column designs. Fragility curves obtained using cloud indicate significant impact failure probability column. research findings presented this paper provide engineers basis selecting appropriate jacket parameters, thickness, height, strength rational manner.
